However, that's hardly what I do, because if I were to do that, no one would find much interest in it because of the extreeme prices. I however think it's worth alot more then what I charge, because of the extreeme life span my things have. Anywho! I'm not going to get into that. So, what I like to do is figure how long it takes me to make something, as in days (like a leather bag can take me a couple days or a couple weeks). Then I figure how much I spend in those days, like on food, utilities, etc. And I charge them what it costs for me to live for the days it takes me to make the item. then I add in the cost of materials. So, say a pair of pants takes me 3 days to make, I spend like $40 or so in those 3 days, and then I add in the cost of materials which may be up to $40 or more. That comes to $80 for a pair of pants. And then for profits sake, I increase the value to what I think a person would pay for them or not.... that's really just up to you.
In actuality, it depends on what you require the money for and how much you think the piece is worth. It's very arbitrary, the value of things. Diamonds cost so much only because people are willing to pay the price. In our society we use money to buy everything we have, so someone making a living selling art would have to charge enough for what sells to pay for the bills, food, entertainment, etc. In a culture that doesn't value money as equal to everything we use, things aren't going to cost near as much...
So yes, please let me know if you understand the riddles that come from my fingers or not. oh... and could you send me a link to your profile page on gaia, either through the comment or a note. I've had an account on there for a long time now, but I don't really use it to often...

The more you do it, the more you can do it, regardless of what it is.
How big is a Gaia avatar? Is it just a little thing, like a normal forum avatar? Or is it a full-body size thing? If the former, I think more than $20 would be pushing it (I charge $10-$15), if the latter, more like $40-$50. At least, that's what I charge. Generally speaking, the prices simply go higher the more polished and well-known the artist is--because really, it's just a matter of "what's the most I can charge without driving all the customers away?"
